Painting & Curling (Experiments In Balance)

Painting & Curling (Experiments In Balance) from JoshCouturierVimeo2 on Vimeo.

Painting & Curling is an Experiment in Balance. The experiment required the tools involved in painting and physical exercise to have codependency when making a mark on canvas.

The duration was based on 3 sets of 5 repetitions, which is the most current work out plan that I have been using.

The piece provoked discussions about Stroke, Weight, Contemporary Art, Exercise, Science, Feminism, Masculinity, Black & White, New Tools.

“wRECk Center” an Experimental Performance

Xbox One & Flat Stone (Experiments In Balance) from JoshCouturierVimeo2 on Vimeo.

A Xbox One & Flat Stone partook in the series, “Experiments In Balance” (aka) the “wRECk Center”. Investigating the question of how to better ones artistic practice, I found that the answers were hidden behind obstacles that only solely burned time.

If after reflecting I cant help but to theorize, Art is the underpinning of my self and surroundings… Then the artist and the art are not separate and neither are the surroundings of such.

All can catalyze, capture or create art…

Campus Green – Big DUCATi (Official Visual)

This is a collaboration I recorded on Logic ProX, with a Blue Microphone Bluebird Cardioid Condenser Microphone, and Scarlett interface. The beat was from producer Alec Dacar, and featured JaeOhEsH’s vocals and mixing effects. The visual animation was made in collaboration with Sir Willis IV, and assets in frame are conceptually based.

Psychedelic Rock “Friday The Turnt Theme” & Chance Pop Remix from Jo Ku on Vimeo.

Concept: Remix pop by manipulating regions in Logic prox with coins and dice, on variables such as pitch, position, duration, and inclusion of notes.

Comments:

“Is that a visualizer or visualization?”

“What is the image?”

“Was that the pop vs chance piece?”

“How did you know when you were done?”

“Have you researched Taoism?”

“Dabbles in the path of John Cage!”

Litmosphere (Prod. Campus Green) (30 Minute Freestyle) & (Full length Movie)

Concept: Make lyrics first, and MIDI instrumentation second, as opposed to the research guided pop standard, beat then lyric approach.

Comments:

“I listen to this while i do homework”

“Lit Bro!”

“I couldn’t tell a difference!”

“Beat Boxing Dubstep!?”

“Wait theres a movie?”

“What the fuck did i just watch?”

Movie Concept: We (Campus Green) can synthesize energy from Litmosphere song into a visual duration of the same length. Although we must perform the video as if we were taking place in a live concert. The first day working we consulted a mystical fortune cookie that lead us to believe that inclusion of documentation of our lives during the composing time period of the project would be valid as B-Roll.

Trails Of Life

This is a documentary short about Colby and his Appalachian trail adventure. This story gives viewers a sense of what the Appalachian trail is like for adventurers today. The challenges that they can encounter and the wonderful sights, lessons and friendships they take away. Truly a must see. Colby answers and elaborates on my questions that help chisel out his reflection of the trip. The majority of this video was a compiled archives of cell phone and a computer webcam diary that were organised to help tell Colbys story, in Premiere and iMovie.

Campus Green – “Locust” (Explicit)

Campus Green is a collaborative music group myself and four others created in 2010. This particular collaboration is between myself, and the instrumental creator Cote Vanidestine. Here I used a Blue SnowBall USB Microphone, recording to GarageBand. The lyrics were then mixed using plugins of compression, equalization, DeEsser, pitch correction and delay, to give it a more textured and contemporary sound. The visual piece was a metaphor on the lyrics showing how were all parts of nature, writing our own path, in this case a “Locust” by the bars of a fence, bars are also lyrical measures in rap music. The video cuts through scenes to help convey lyrical points. Color corrected for brightness, vibrance and saturation, black and white effects. The video was filmed with a Canon 7D and 18-135mm lens using manual aperture, ISO, shutter speed, zoom and focus, on a fixed tripod, custom made slider bar and dolly.

Chas Bruns Documentary (Short Film)

This is a documentary short telling the story of Chas Bruns and his love for media, and how he followed his love for media through his life in this spectacular interview. The interview was done using a Canon 7D and 18-135mm lens using manual aperture, ISO, shutter speed, zoom and focus, and a LAV microphone. The edit was made on IMovie and Final Cut, manipulating Ken Burns effects on stills and color-correction, to magnify brightness, contrast, vibrance, saturation, shadows, sharpness, and light levels.

Dirt Cheap – Bar Harbor, Maine

My good friend and mentor Chas Bruns, directs, stars and produces “Dirt Cheap – Bar Harbor, Maine”, one of a few of his episodes on Youtube. I was lucky enough to help him film a portion of the feature, including follow shots, over the shoulder, panning, tilting, and establishing shots. Not to mention myself and LED MEDX are featured in the episode. A really great piece!
